It seems likely that Gail Weingast didn’t always want to be a doctor; it seems not to have been a calling. At first, she attended Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts, to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. There were no pre-med courses, just Spanish. At some point, though, something caused her to change her mind. Soon, she attended the Boston University School of Medicine, where she officially became Dr. Gail Weingast in 1976, at which point, she completed a pediatrics internship and residency in pediatrics, followed by a fellowship inultrasound.
After completing her post-graduate studies, Dr. Gail Weingast worked at other hospitals in Colorado and New York, until she settled into her current position as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. She has been there more than 20 years by now, during which time she has guidedthe Backus radiology department to its current status as a premiere medical facility, recognized both nationally and globally.
