Dr. Gail Weingast currently ranks among the top radiology specialists in the country. She has been at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut for more than 20 years by now, and she served as their Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. From that position, she has managed to guide her department into its current position as a premiere medical facility in New England, if not the entire country. A case could be made that her department is one of the best in the world.
In all, it has been Dr. Gail Weingast’s nearly four decades of education and experience that has given her an edge. That’s not bad for someone whose career obviously was never a calling. In fact, when she began her education in 1969, Gail Weingast attended Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts. Obviously, medicine wasn’t her calling at the time because she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from that illustrious school. At some point soon after that, however, she must have decided on a medical career because it wasn’t long after that when she decided to attend the Boston University School of Medicine, where she officially became Gail Weingast MD in 1976.
After her time in medical school, Dr. Weingast completed a two-year pediatrics internship and a three-year radiology residency at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, as well as a fellowship in the field of ultrasound. Gail Weingast, MD completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Following that, she practiced at several other hospitals in Colorado and New York, until landing in Connecticut.
